The Lake Zurich Area is a combination of six communities with the Village of Lake Zurich at its center. The other communities are Deer Park, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Long Grove and North Barrington. The Area encompasses 32.3 square miles and has seen steady growth in the last ten years. The population in 1990 was 27,004 and, according to the 2000 census, it grew to 40,321. The breakdown of the population is 50.1% male and 49.9% female. The population of the Area is relatively young with a median age of 40.4 years. The selection of housing in the Lake Zurich Area is so varied that you should not have a problem finding just what you want. If you prefer turn-of-the-century style, you have a choice of which century, 19th, 20th or 21st. If your taste runs towards condominiums on the Lake or large homes on large lots, there is an ample supply of both. The metropolitan area is home to professional baseball, basketball, hockey, football, soccer, auto racing and horse racing. The region also boasts about its world famous symphony orchestra, ballet, theaters, museums, art galleries and architecture. In its own backyard, the Lake Zurich Area has a flourishing arts and entertainment community. The festivals, concerts, special events and exhibits showcase local and regional talent in the performing arts. If your tastes range from Beethoven to beer gardens, there is something in the area that you will like. Lake Zurich is a "people who care" community.
