Park Ridge is a pleasant, family-oriented community 14 miles from Downtown Chicago. Much of life revolves around the schools and their activities. Couples with school-age children are the most attracted to this suburb, causing increased enrollment in the elementary schools. To accommodate the new young residents, additions have been made to all the existing grade schools. Housing: A majority of the homes were built in the 1950's, although the popular Georgians and Tudors were built before World War II. Other styles include Victorians, Cape Cods, Dutch Colonials and ranches. Education: Most students in Park Ridge attend district 64 schools, while a small area on the north side of town is served by district 63. Students in third, sixth and eighth grades scored well above average on the math and reading portions of the IGAP exam. Most teenagers attend Maine South High School in district 207, while others go to Maine East High School. Transportation: The Kennedy Expressway (I-90) and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) have interchanges in the community, a Union Pacific rail line runs through town, and a CTA stop is located on the south end of town. Drive time to the Loop and Midway Airport is 30 minutes. It takes only five minutes to get to O'Hare Airport. CTA trains stop at Cumberland Avenue and reach the Loop in 40 Minutes. Commuters can reach the Loop in 20 to 25 minutes from the town's two Metra stations. Bus service is also available. Recreation: Park Ridge offers 20 well-manicured parks for residents to enjoy. Along with the Oakton state-of-the-art Ice Arena and the Driving Range, Park Ridge has many varied activities. Park Ridge offers suburban living with excellent schools, numerous parks, and a full array of youth programs and leisure activities for your family to enjoy.
