You will be located about five minutes from Roselawn - DeMotte interchange of 1-65 and Indiana Route 10. You will be located approximately 40 minutes from beautiful Lake Michigan and the Port of Indiana, 20 minutes from the Indiana-Illinois state line and 60 minutes from Chicago. Major highways, including 1-65, Indiana Rt. 10 and U.S. 231, which is the main thoroughfare of DeMotte, provide easy access to these surrounding areas .

The Kankakee Valley School Corporation serves DeMotte and surrounding area and consists of a high school-middle school complex, two elementary schools, an intermediate school and a kindergarten. There are 3,100 students enrolled in the system. The schools offer an excellent academic program plus many extracurricular activities. Kankakee Valley offers an excellent Fine Arts program plus an outstanding sports program, which is available to both boys and girls beginning in the elementary grades. DeMotte is also fortunate to have a private elementary Christian School, established in 1947 and provides pre-school through 8th grade education to approximately 300 students. A new high school, Covenant Christian High School was established in 1999 and serves 9th grade students. It will expand to serve all four grades by 2002. Both schools are parent supported institutions affiliated with Christian Schools International.

"Decide DeMotte" and you will be only a short distance from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, and Indiana University and Purdue University in an adjoining county. Additionally, you will only be 45 minutes from the main campus of Purdue University, which is one of the major cultural and higher educational centers of Northwest Indiana.

Classes meet at the DeMotte Library, East Meeting Room. Classes are open to anyone age 16 or older not enrolled in high school. The DeMotte branch of the Jasper County Public Library, located at 9th and Birch Streets, is a very busy and continuously growing facility. DeMotte Library's collection includes almost 40,000 titles. DeMotte, Wheatfield, and Rensselaer Libraries comprise the Jasper County Public Library (JCPL) with holdings of over 115,000 items. A JCPL card may be used at all three libraries. Courier service brings materials from the other two branches to the DeMotte branch in response to patron requests. Interlibrary loan service allows access to libraries nationwide. If DeMotte doesn't have a book, it can usually be obtained through interlibrary loan. Skilled staff is available to help you find what you want.

DeMotte Library also loans large print books, magazines, videos, CD ROM software, compact discs, and book on tape. Various audio-visual equipment is also available for loan through the library system. Photocopying and FAX machine services are available. Internet workstations are available for public use. Other facilities include quiet study areas, genealogy/local history room, and a typewriter and computer for public use. Basic federal and Indiana state income tax forms are on hand during tax season.

Free meeting room facilities are available on a first come first serve basis. Scout troops meet regularly at the library during the school year.

Programs are offered for all ages. A wide variety of programs deal with such subjects as living wills, lawn and garden care, financial planning, fishing how-to's, skin care and predatory birds. From time to time the library has offered local art shows, baseball card swaps and even a play reading. Toddler time and preschool story hour series are offered throughout the year. Over 200 children in grades 1 through 8 participate in the annual summer reading program. Friends of the DeMotte Library is a non-profit organization which supports the library and its programs.

"Decide DeMotte" and you will have your choice of four excellent medical clinics to care for your health needs. You will find four full-time family physicians, two full-time dentists, three full-time optometrists, along with specialists in various fields of medicine available on a part-time basis each week

"Decide DeMotte" and you will be located about 20 minutes from four major hospitals: St. Anthony in Crown Point, Porter Memorial in Valparaiso, Broadway Methodist in Merrillville, and Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer.

"Decide DeMotte" and you will have the services of the Keener Township Ambulance Service which maintains two units in DeMotte. Four additional units are available within eight miles. You will have trained volunteer Emergency Technicians and expert drivers on 24-hour call.

"Decide DeMotte" and you will have excellent recreational facilities. Freedom Park offers a picnic area, tennis courts, and playground equipment. Spencer Park has a picnic area, public swimming pool and softball and baseball fields which are used by local organizations and adult leagues. Field of Dreams offers a pavilion with a concession stand and picnic tables. The park has seven Little League fields and ten soccer fields. Future playground equipment and a basketball court are being planned. Ciurus Park is a 40 acre undeveloped area. Grand Kankakee Marsh Park, located on the Kankakee River, is five minutes outside town where you will find the fishing good. Three state game preserves are nearby within 45 minutes of DeMotte. They are: LaSalle Fish and Wildlife Area, Willow Slough and Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Game Preserve. The area abounds with hunting, fishing, bird watching, canoeing and all types of related outdoor activities.
