This small city is located in Floyd County, on the most southern-eastern part of Indiana; however it is really regarded by many as being a satellite suburb of Louisville, its largest newest metro area.

Floyds Knobs is named after Col. Davis Floyd, but the word ?knobs? comes from the hills on the north side of Little Indian Creek where Floyds Knobs is situated and which offers a spectacular view of the river and of Louisville.

Housing options are diverse and affordable. For the first quarter of 2003, the average home price for a new, 2,400-square-foot home in Floyds Knobs was $198,570, this was more than 15% below the national average. However there are many houses that cost considerably lower than that, while there are others that are expansive in size, and cost more than the average. So there is something to suit every wallet here!

The Ohio River is the defining natural feature of Southern Indiana. Its "falls" ? really an extended rapids ? originally made this area a stopping point for westward-bound traders and settlers. A substantial number of people settled on the north side of the river just on the other side of Louisville.

The climate is moderate, with short, mild winters and wonderful fall colors. Major employers include Floyd Memorial Hospital, Beach Mold & Tool, Discount Labels, and Pillsbury Company.

Louisville itself offers a quality of life that is matched by few in the country. Not only is Louisville one of nine communities with a resident professional opera, theater, orchestra, ballet and children's theater. Louisville also is home to several world-class museums and educational attractions, such as the J.B. Speed Art Museum, Glassworks and the Louisville Science Center.

Sports play an important role in the Louisville and its suburbs. The University of Louisville is home to Division I football and basketball teams, and the city also enjoys rooting its professional baseball and arena football teams to victory.

When you see the area's natural beauty and consider the cost of living is consistently lower than the national average, you'll want to make Floyds Knobs your home. Whether you desire a rural setting, suburban convenience, or an urban lifestyle, you can find what you want here.
