In 1921, the Greenfield City Council ordered land to be surveyed for a park around the "Old Swimmin' Hole." This became Riley Park, which now contains a stone shelter house, pioneer church, the old log jail, the Patricia Elmore Center and a community swimming pool.

The second jail was built in 1852 and served as the county jail until 1871. It has nails pounded into the upstairs cell walls to prevent prisoners from sawing their way out. Once standing behind the courthouse, this jail has been moved twice and now sits in Riley Park. It now serves as a museum for the Hancock County Historical Society.

The Carnegie Library Building has a neo-classical roofline and pilasters. Built in 1908-1909, it shows the return to simpler, functional buildings in the 20th Century. One of many libraries built in Indiana by Andrew Carnegie; it now houses an elegant restaurant.

Every year the community has several celebrations to commemorate special events and people, and people get excited about being a part of this community. There is a close-knit feel to the community even though it is about 11,000 people strong.
