Lake Station is located in Lake County in northwest Indiana. First settled over 150 years ago, Lake Station has grown into a diverse city, proud of its educational, recreational, and industrial facilities. Today approximately 14,000 people and 300 businesses, including three major manufacturers (Sun Engineering, Greenwald Surgical Instruments, and East Gary Concrete), can be found in the city. Over 80 acres of community and neighborhood parks provide residents with facilities for outdoor swimming, organized football, basketball, softball, soccer, tennis, picnics and play.

Lake Station Community Schools
Lake Station Community Schools is governed by a Board of School Trustees composed of five members who reside within the boundaries of the school corporation. Board members are elected. The corporation serves approximately 1,500 students in grades K-12, with 210 certified staff members and classified employees. The approved 1998 budget for all funds is $9,691,028. The Corporation is organized on a K-6 (Elementary), 7-8 (Junior High), and 9-12 (High School) plan, and includes four elementary schools and the Junior/Senior High School. All schools have received full accreditation status through the 2001 by the Indiana Department of Education.
Thomas A. Edison Jr/Sr High School
Edison Junior-Senior High School is a comprehensive high school with a student enrollment of 708. The faculty number 53 including a principal, and assistant principal, two counselors, and a Dean of Students. The campus is located on a 25-acre site on Parkside Avenue in the north-central part of the city. The original building on this site opened in 1956 for students in grades 10-12. Edison Junior/Senior High School is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
