Muncie located in Delaware County which is the home of Garfield the cartoon cat, whose creator is Jim Davis, grew up in nearby Fairmont. Muncie is also the home of Ball State University, the city's largest employer, perhaps Ball State's best known alumnus is CBS Late Show host, David Letterman. Muncie is also an auto town. It remains the home of two transmission manufacturers, New Venture Gear and Borg-Wainer Automotive and also a Delphi plant makes batteries for General Motors electric vehicles.

Muncie-Delaware County, Indiana is a progressive and industrious community with an incredible working partnership among business, labor, government and education.

The combined efforts of these visionary groups have led Muncie to achieving the status of "Outstanding Community in the State of Indiana" as presented by the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce. Money Magazine continues to list Muncie in the top twenty percent (20%) of the "Best Cities to Live and Work" in the United States. In June 2001 Muncie was named as a "All America City Finalist" by the National Civic League and Allstate Insurance company in recognition of exciting, collaborative, and innovative projects that are taking place in our city today.

We have recently achieved record for employment, housing construction, building construction, per capita income, retail sales, per capita income, and more. While achieving these success levels our community still boasts of an abundantly and highly skilled workforce.
