Roanoke, Indiana

On July 4th, 1835, the Wabash and Erie Canal was officially opened from Fort Wayne to Dickey Lock, approximately 15 miles west of Fort Wayne. The new canal brought wool, flour and saw mills to the area and fostered a small frontier village that soon would be called "Roanoke."

Today Roanoke radiates with the feeling of hometown friendliness and a neighborly concern for providing a safe and pleasant place to live. We're proud of our community, with its blend of tradition and progress whether in revitalizing the old or expanding for the future.

Roanoke is one of the fastest growing areas of Huntington County. The town and surrounding area have grown by more than 25% since 1990. Growth is expected to continue as a result of the town's close proximity to both Fort Wayne and Huntington. The small town atmosphere, rural setting and available public services are attractive to those who settle here. Roanoke has several housing developments and building sites on the fringes of town for people seeking a more rural setting, while continuing to enjoy the many benefits the town has to offer.

With a two hundred and fifty acre-park in the center of town that includes two baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and a picnic pavilion overlooking the playground, Roanoke offers something for everyone. Host to many events, such as the annual Roanoke Fall Festival, the park brings the community together and helps keep our town beautiful. So what are you waiting for?

Roanoke boasts a two hundred and fifty-acre park in the center of town, with two lighted baseball diamonds, tennis courts, a picnic pavilion overlooking a fully equipped playground, and ample parking. Baseball, T-Ball, girl's softball, Little League and Pony League, soccer and PAL football teams are all part of the park program. In addition, many of Roanoke's community events revolve around the park, including the annual fireworks display and the Roanoke Fall Festival. The Park also contains a full sized tractor-pulling track, installed and maintained by the Roanoke Pullers tractor club, and is home to an annual demolition derby. One thing is for certain...
