The Lake Central School Corporation serves some 7,810 Schererville area students. It operates a high school, two middle schools, and six kindergarten through fifth elementary schools. These students come from the rapidly growing communities of Schererville, Dyer, St. John and St. John Township. To accommodate continuing growth, the school system has added to existing school buildings and is planning construction of a seventh elementary school in the near future. These include Purdue Calumet, Hammond; Calumet College, Whiting; Indiana University Northwest, Gary; and Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Hyles Anderson College, Crown Point. Five hospitals provide high quality health care and treatment to the Schererville area. These are St. Margaret Mercy Health Care South Campus, St. Anthony Medical Center, Munster Community Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and Southlake Center for Mental Health Care.
