Located in the south-central part of Indiana, the City of Seymour is commonly referred to as the "Crossroads of Southern Indiana." It is situated in the middle of four industrial centers and at the intersection of three rail lines, and is served by Interstate 65, U.S. Highways 50 and 31, and State Highways 11 and 258. Seymour's Airport, owned by the city, has one of the largest charter and freight services in Indiana.

The Seymour Park and Recreation Department provides a year-round recreational program for residents. The community has five public parks, nine playgrounds, tennis courts, a swimming pool, picnic grounds, baseball parks and volleyball courts. Seymour also has a Country Club with a nine-hole golf course and complete dining service. This community also has a wonderfully renovated county public library as well as historic sites and the annual Oktoberfest.
