Whiteland is located in northern Johnson County approximately 19 miles south of Indianapolis. Whiteland was incorporated on May 3, 1886; however, the town was beginning to blossom as early as 1858. Three businesses formed the center of Whiteland. When the first plat was laid out it consisted of 40 lots. Today Whiteland has approximately 1600 lots. The estimated population is 4,127. Many towns say they offer the best of both worlds: small-town comfort and hospitality with immediate access to metropolitan conveniences. But few towns in the Midwest offer the proof behind this statement as well as Whiteland. Housing here is an exceptional value too, with the average home in the mid $80's.
