Atlantic is known as the golf capital of Iowa. It has two 18-hole golf courses and hosts the Iowa Tournament of Champions every year. The YMCA offers a great variety of activities for youth and adults. Atlantic boasts five city parks, two bowling alleys, a skating rink and a miniature golf course. Hunters from all over the country come to Atlantic to hunt pheasant. The area is plentiful with quail, duck, geese and whitetail deer. Comprehensive academic studies emphasize mastering basic skills. Higher education is provided in Atlantic and nearby cities. Continuing education is emphasized at the Iowa Western Community College with a satellite located in Atlantic. Two and four year colleges are within a 60 minute drive. Atlantic is rich in agriculture...so much so that it is the backbone of the community. Corn and soybeans are the main crops. Yields are high, thanks to the management expertise of our farmers, our gently rolling fertile soils and well distributed rainfall.
