Garner, Iowa
Population: 2,922 Located in Hancock County
In the summer of 1870 in conjunction with the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway, the town of Garner was plated. Garner was named after Col. W. W. Garner, a civil engineer on the Rock Island Railroad. Garner is located on US Highways 18 and 69, just 11 miles west of I-35. The community offers an excellent school system, recreation program, business district, and is the home to over 800 industrial jobs. Within a 12-mile radius there are over 4,000 industrial jobs available. With four distinct seasons, and the wide-open spaces for which Iowa is justly famous, there is always something to be done that’s fun! Cool nights, plenty of snow and constant change are things you can pretty much count on from Central Iowa’s weather. The fall colors are known worldwide, but other seasons are just as beautiful. A fresh snowfall serenely blankets the ground while leaving tufts like cotton on tree branches. Spring brings a mix of brown and green in every shade and hue as leaves are rejuvenated. The best part of Garner is that housing is still very affordable for this area, with the average three bedroom, one bathroom, split level home with over 1,900 square feet of space is only in the range of $63,000. A beautiful single-family home with two bedrooms, one bathroom with a square footage of over 1,000 feet on over 7 acres of beautiful, rolling land is in the area of $92,000. If older homes are more your style, try a home built in the 1800’s, on an acre of land for only $78,000. Other land is available for residential or commercial proving Garner to be an excellent choice for relocating a family or business. Garner is a tight knit community, dedicated to economic development and productivity. That dedication is embodied in the basic values of our Midwestern heritage that still thrives today — a heritage of strong work ethic, dedication to high-quality education and old fashioned ideals.
