Nevada was voted one of the best small towns in USA and the Best small town to live in Iowa (by Norman Crampton book). Our community is rural based, our schools: Nevada Community School is of 3 buildings, all in the city limits--Elementary is Pre-Kindergarten thru 4th grade average 100 in each grade, the newer middle school is 5th through 8th grade, the high school is 9th through 12th grade. The three buildings house about 1600 students. Our school district is committed to student achievement. All three buildings enjoy a low student- teacher ratio and a variety of academic programs.

Nevada students consistently perform above the National average on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills and the Iowa Tests of Educational Development. Students also perform above average above the national average on the ACT tests for college admission.

Recreation- Nevada has an active Park and Recreation program. The program includes all junior, little leagues in soccer, baseball, flag football, softball, swimming, golf, camps, trips, building rentals, walking and biking trails. Every July 4 is celebrated in Nevada with a parade and fireworks. Every year we celebrate "Lincoln Highway Days" the 4th weekend every August.
