Storm Lake, Iowa The biggest city in the county of Buena Vista is Storm Lake. From its very beginning in 1870, Storm Lake was destined to be a community to look up to in northwest Iowa. Storm Lake's base population including Lakeside, Casino, South Shore and Bel Air Beach is 9500 residents. With basic foundations of a beautiful 3,000-acre lake the town grew to become the county seat of Buena Vista County as well as the home of Buena Vista University, one of the leading private 4 year colleges in the Midwest. The employment leaders of the community are IBP Pork Processing and Bil-Mar Foods, a turkey processing facility. Iowa certainly enjoys all four seasonal changes.
