Baldwin City is a community of 3,500 residents located just south of Lawrence in Douglas County. The city is home to the oldest university in Kansas, Baker University, which was established in 1858. This beautiful college town still features hand-layed brick streets and wonderfully preserved historic homes as well as high quality new construction in a number of new subdivisions.

More than 50 civic organizations and eight churches call Baldwin City home, and offer valuable opportunities for becoming involved in the community. There are a variety of recreational activities for children, adults and seniors. Whether you act, fish, play sports, paint, quilt, or golf, there is something for everyone.

Every fall the town comes alive during the third full weekend in October for the Maple Leaf Festival, which draws 30,000 to 40,000 visitors. The festival offers visitors a wide range of activities including arts & crafts booths, a parade, live music, a carnival, a quilt show and a melodrama.

The Midland Railway offers scenic train rides on an 11-mile trip from Baldwin City to Norwood. The train operates rain or shine Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Memorial Day Weekend through October. Call for current departure times and fares. The railway is a joint project of the Midland Railway Historical Association and the Santa Fe Trail Historical Society. The Railway Depot is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Baldwin City offers a mix of historical homes, post 1950s homes, and new construction within the city limits and in outlying areas. Prices range from $90,000 to $300,000. The median home value in the city is $135,000. New construction has been highlighted in three new subdivisions: Fire Tree Estates, Heritage, and Brittany Ridge.
