Bordered by the Arkansas River on the west, smaller towns on the east and south, and Wichita just twenty minutes to our north, we are uniquely suited for business growth and growing families! One of the most economically vital towns in Kansas, Derby has almost doubled its size in the past twenty years. Throughout this prolonged growth, the people of Derby have been resolute in their planning for industrial and technological expansion that accommodates traditional family-based values. Derby is home to 16 parks, all with something different to offer the community. HAND PARK - consists of 9.9 acres located on the comer of Lakeview and English. An attractive feature of Hand Park is that Swaney School is located directly east and its facilities can be used in unison with the park facilities. The parks facilities include: Lighted horseshoe pits (4) RILEY PARK - occupies 3.3 acres and is located on East Kay street. The parks facilities include: GARRETT PARK - located on 87th Street South, occupies over 40 acres. The parks facilities include: CRANE PARK - occupies 4.4 acres on the corner of James and Marguerite. Most of the park is covered by trees. The park facilities include: ENGLISH PARK - located on the corner of Westview and Crestway. The park consists of 3.9 acres and facilities include: Derby Schools consist of 8 Elementary Schools; 1 Progressive Learning Center; 1 Sixth Grade Center; 1 Middle School; 1 High School and 1 Alternative High School. Total Derby USD 260 enrollment was 6,505.6 kindergarten through twelfth grade as of September, 1996. Elementary (K-5) enrollment was 3,276, Sixth Grade Center enrollment was 521, Middle School (7-8) enrollment was 1,082, High School (9-12) enrollments was 1,841. (Alternative High School enrollment was 100). District wide the average classroom consists of 23 students. Elementary classrooms - 23; Middle School - 22; and the High School has an average of 24 students per classroom.
