Gardner is a young, growing community 25 miles southwest of downtown Kansas City along Interstate 35. On the other hand, Gardner also offers a small town, somewhat nostalgic flavor that mant people long for.

Although Gardner was founded in1857 and was connected to the Santa Fe Railroad in the 1870s, the population was small until the recent residential boom. Gardner has an abundance of affordable new homes which have attracted thousands of young families seeking the dream of new home ownership. The Santa Fe and Oregon Trails both passed through the area and forked just west of town.

Gardner's city slogan "where the trails divide" and Gardner-Edgerton High School's mascot "The Trailblazers" both stem from this unique location in history. Today Gardner is the fastest growing small city in Kansas and one of the fastest in the entire Midwest. In addition to the residential construction boom, Gardner is experiencing new commercial and industrial growth. A retired Naval Air Station has been developed into the Johnson County Industrial Airport and New Century Industrial Park. A Sprint-Nextel complex in New Century is one of the largest office buildings in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Although there is much new in Gardner, the community maintains an attractive "small town" business center and some older, established neighborhoods as well. Gardner is a town on the move with a very bright future.
