A Community Like No Other, Mission Hills, Kansas
Mission Hills is so unique, it is one of the wealthiest cities per capita in the nation. The developer, J.C.Nichols who built the famous Country Club Plaza area on Kansas City, first envisioned this new residential area in 1912. He set out to create "the most distinguished of American garden suburbs." The natural rolling hills, trees, streams, plateaus and valleys, made the area very attractive to the wealthy residents of Kansas City. Today, this area has the most valuable real estate in the Greater Kansas City area, there are approximately 3,633 residents. The proximity to the Country Club Plaza area also adds to its popularity.

Homes range from $400K to over $3million. The area has many parks, fountains, winding streets lined with trees, estate size lots. One of the parks, Verona Columns Park, was designed and installed in 1925 by Herbert Hare. The mottled burnt orange columns, weighing 3000pounds each and standing 12 feet tall, were purchased in Verona, Italy. In the center of the columns is a white carrara marble urn, also from Italy. Down a flight of steps is an oval fountain pool with a two tiered swan fountain from Rome.

There are also two private golf clubs with in the city, Mission Hills Country Club and Indian Hills. Mission Hills CC was built in 1915 and covers 125 acres, it is rumored the club paid $125 an acre for the beautiful rolling grounds. In 1956 a new club house was built and the old one was sold along with 6.6 acres and converted to the Carriage Club. Today, some of the most beautiful home in Kansas City have been built or rebuilt in this prestigious community. The school district for this community is the award winning Shawnee Mission Schools and one of the reasons for the popular growth of this area.
