Glasgow, the seat of Barren county, is located near the center of the county on US 31E, US 68, KY 80, and KY 90. It was founded in 1799 with the county and named for the city in Scotland. The Glasgow post office opened in 1803. The Barren County Community is alive with local business, industry and tourism. The 10,000-acre lake includes a public sand beach. The Glasgow Recreation Board operates four parks and sponsors leagues in all major sports. Barren County's privately owned facilities include a country club, four golf courses, a swimming pool, a skating rink, bowling lanes, an indoor theater, and miniature golf.
