The Palisades
The Palisades are the majestic limestone cliffs bordering the Kentucky River between Frankfort on I-64 west of Lexington and Clays Ferry on I-75 east of Lexington. These are the oldest exposed rock formations in the state, rising 400 feet in some places, and supporting the highest concentration of rare plant species in Kentucky. Some of the most dramatic cliffs are found in the area surrounding the Jim Beam Nature Preserve, around Camp Nelson and High Bridge.
