Historic sites:
The United Daughters of the Confederacy placed the Memorial Gates at the entrance to Maplewood Cemetery in Mayfield there. While in the cemetery be sure to see the Woodridge Monuments - 18 life-size statues at the 1899 tomb of the man who commissioned the "strange procession that never moves!" Mayfield is also the home to a unique Confederate Memorial, located on the courthouse square. Designed to serve as a drinking fountain, it is one of five utilitarian Civil War monuments in Kentucky.

Land between the Lakes Recreation Area, part of Kentucky Dam Village State Park offers all the recreational facilities you could dream of. If you can ride it, shoot it (as in photographs), walk it, catch it, hunt it or float in it, you can do it at Land between the Lakes! This is a unique tract of land 40 miles long found between two lakes. Kentucky has taken this island and made it into a preserve, bringing back bison and elk and recreating their native habitat. It offers 300 miles of beaches and 200 miles of hiking and biking trails.

If golfing is more your idea of a "par"fect day out, then you must try the Village Green Golf Course, an 18 hole course that is well-laid out and in the middle of some of the most beautiful countryside around.

Purchase Players, a local community theater group, presents six productions a year in the historic Legion Theater just off the court square. At nearby Fancy Farm, an annual picnic is held which is in the Guinness Book of Records as the worlds largest. The picnic is held the first weekend in August.
