Avoyelles Parish is located in central Louisiana, near the eastern border of the state. It is strategically situated along the Red and Atchafalaya Rivers, and its access to the major cities of the region provides industry a wide range of opportunities for market access, transportation and recreation.

The parish is geographically located in the center of the state with a present-day population of approximately 40,000. The land area consists of 864 square miles. Cropland and pasture accounts for 52 percent and woodlands, 34 percent and there is 20,000 acres of lakes, bayous and rivers provide abundant fish and game. Avoyelles Parish enjoys a temperate climate throughout the year. In addition to year round recreational activities such as fishing, boating, hunting, swimming, golf and tennis, the Avoyelles Arts and Humanities Council provides cultural activities. Historic sites and museums commemorate the region's rich Native American culture. Avoyelles Parish is rich in French/Acadian tradition and rich in Indian culture, preserved by the Marksville State Commemorative Area and the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Center & Museum, home of the famous Tunica-Biloxi Treasure Collection. We have three state wildlife management areas and two federal wildlife refuges. Two welcome centers in addition to the Avoyelles Commission of Tourism office offer a wealth of information on our attractions.

Bunkie originated as one of the largest plantations in the region. Bunkie offers antique shops, Historic Homes, the LA Corn Festival in June, Rotary Christmas Parade, Krewe of Cronus Mardi Gras Ball and Parade, and is 17 miles from a casino.
