Named after Thomas Jefferson, Jefferson Parish stretches from the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain all the way to the coast of the Gulf of Mexico at Grand Isle. It is hard to say where Metairie stops and Kenner begins, these two municipalities are intertwined. Located at one end of the world's longest over-water bridge, the Causeway, Metairie is home to several landmarks including the New Orleans' Zephyr Stadium, home to the city's minor league baseball team, and the nesting area for thousands of purple martyns that fly south each year.

Metairie has large annual Mardi Gras celebrations as part of the greater New Orleans metropolitan area. The World's longest bridge, the twin span, 24-miles long Lake Pontchartrain Causeway connects Metairie to the towns of Covington, Mandeville and Madisonville on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain. I-10 Louisiana's busiest Interstate runs through the heart of Metairie.

Lexis of New Orleans is in Metairie. Mercedes Benz of New Orleans is located in Metairie. Metairie is similar to New Orleans in many ways, but it is not located in Orleans Parish and it is locally governed by the Council of the Parish of Jefferson.

Once the site of a Colapissa Indian Village, Metairie is now home to upscale boutiques, restaurants, and coffee shops. Lovely neighborhoods with oak-lined streets display a variety of housing from quaint cottages to magnificent mansions.

There's a diverse population that calls Metairie home and with it comes a diverse economy. Fishing vessels and renown seafood have always be a key force in the area, but Metairie was not to be left behind in this technological era. Due to its ideal location, the area prides itself on its modern business facilities accommodating everything from political events to sports events. Cultural amenities abound including the Jefferson Performing Arts Society and the Friends of Rivertown Fine Art Gallery. There's always stuff for the kids including the Louisiana Toy Train Museum and the Daily Living Science Center.
