The Town of Arundel consists of approximately 24 square miles with 50 miles of public roads. It is bordered by the city of Biddeford, and the towns of Kennebunkport, Kennebunk, Lyman and Dayton. Arundel's population is currently about 3,000 people according to estimates prepared by the Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission. This represents a 39% increase since 1980. Two major Routes, Rt 1 (Portland Rd) and Rt 111 (Alfred Rd), run through Arundel connecting Biddeford to Sanford and Kennebunk, Kennebunkport. Arundel's housing is primarily owner occupied single family units. Only 4% of the total housing units are in duplex or multi-family structures. The town has three mobile home parks. Arundel has a Volunteer Fire department staffed by one hired full time fireman on duty Monday through Friday. The new main station was just completed in 1998 and is located on the Limerick Rd. along with a small substation located on the Old Post Rd. A new ambulance service was just begun in the fall of 1998 and coverage continues along with mutual aid agreements with the neighboring towns. Law enforcement is provided by the York County Sheriff's Department and the Maine State Police. The Town Offices are located next to the Main Fire Station on the Limerick Rd. The hours are from 8 am to 4:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday. The first Monday of each month the offices are open until 6:30 p.m. Services provided include: Motor vehicle re-registrations; Boat, ATV, and Snowmobile new and re-registrations; Hunting & Fishing licenses; along with dog registrations, tax collection, Birth, Marriage and Death certificates. Assessing records are available during these business hours also. The town has a Transfer Station for recycling and trash collection. The Transfer Station is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 am to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Arundel charges a per bag fee to encourage recycling. All recyclables are free. Arundel is pleased to be continually expanding the number of recyclables being accepted. The Mildred L. Day School located on the Limerick Rd provides education for Grades K thru 8. High School students are tuitioned to local area high schools, presently these include Kennebunk, Arundel is becoming well known for it's antique malls and shops such as Antiques USA, Arundel Antiques, Bacon's Antiques & Auctions and the Front Porch Antiques all located on the Portland Rd. Arundel Ford & Weirs Motors on Route 1 are also well known. An increased number of small home occupations are also located in Arundel. The Seashore Trolley Museum is located on the Log Cabin Rd in Arundel and provides a unique tourist attraction. The Dutch Elm Golf Course offers locals and tourist alike a well groomed 18 hole golf course. The Landing School of Boat Building and Design located on the River Road and the Heartwood School of Art located on the Arundel Road provide unique educational opportunities. Arundel presently has two seasonal campground, Red Apple Campground (formerly Fran-Mort), located on Sinnott Rd and Hemlock Grove Campground on the Portland Rd (Rt 1). The Arundel Meadows Inn Bed & Breakfast is a well known landmark on the Portland Rd.
