Within this region you can enjoy clear salt and fresh water pleasures (we even have our own swimming holes). There are parks for picnics, hiking and camping. Nature preserves and historical points of interest. Honest to goodness working harbors and small towns.
Look what we have to offer!
For golfers, the greens of Wawenock Country Club are among the finest in the state and leave nothing to be desired. Tennis, swimming, riding, salt and fresh water sailing, boating and canoeing (one canoe trip covers fifty miles through both fresh and salt water, with only two carries), are available sports.
Excursion boats visit the many islands and harbors on regular schedules. At lighthouse Park at Pemaquid Point, with its superb marine view, are picnic facilities, Fisherman's Museum and the Art Gallery. Pemaquid Beach Park has bath-houses and a food concession. At nearby Colonial Pemaquid Historical Site is Fort Pemaquid (1692), an artifacts museum, excavations and an adjacent seafood restaurant and picnic pier. Small mouth black bass, land locked salmon, trout, pickerel, perch and other fresh water fish are found in the numerous ponds and streams. The ocean offers tuna, cod, haddock, and other deep sea fish. Fishing through the ice for smelts and pickerel, and the alewife run in May are events never to be forgotten.
For the photographer and the jogger, the autumn woodlands and country roads offer endless vistas of incomparable splendor. For the youngsters, there is the Lonna Bunting Children's Playground, opened in 1986. Central Lincoln County Family Recreational Center in Damariscotta provides all types of indoor activity throughout the year. In addition to first run movies, the annual concert series, as well as summer concerts, provide musical enjoyment.
