Abingdon is one of the oldest towns in Harford County and is bisected by I-95. To the east is the waterfront areas of Long Bar Harbor with the marinas and yacht clubs with their easy access to the Chesapeake Bay. To the west, are several newer residential developments and commercial areas. The only ice skating rinks in the county are in Abingdon.

The Harford County Transportation Service (HCTS) operates a fixed bus route from Joppatowne to Edgewood, Bel Air, and Fallston. The MD Transit Administration operates a bus route along U.S.40 to Baltimore. Small shopping centers abound and the large regional malls are found in Bel Air and White Marsh (Baltimore County). The medical needs are served by the Upper Chesapeake Health System with hospitals in Bel Air, Fallston ,and Havre de Grace. Primary and secondary school systems teach basic skills and individual achievement. Newcomers receive a warm welcome here and recreational facilities are plentiful.
