Cecilton, Maryland

Population: 474
Located in Cecil County

Most transportation on the Chesapeake Bay area had been by water until the early 1700s when the road system began to develop and crossroads towns came into being; such was Cecilton at the intersection of Routes 213 and 282 near the center of Sassafras Neck.

Located between the Bohemia River and Sassafras River, this area is home to several exquisite historic manor homes and colonial estates, and rich farmland still surrounds the town today. The town that was first called Cecil Town is now a mixture of rural and residential, with a few businesses in the small downtown district.

To the south of town is Greenfield, a remarkably beautiful estate. To the west of town are Mt. Harmon Plantation, Frisby's Prime Choice and Rose Hill. The Anchorage, which is well-known throughout the region as an outstanding bed and breakfast is on Route 213. These are also well-tilled farms that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Walking into one of these places is like taking a walk into the past.

On the east side of Cecilton is 1,000-acre Worsell Manor. These farms, and others like them, give life blood to Cecilton, which is still strongly agricultural.

Cecilton is a small community of less than 500 people, but because of its proximity to the Bay it does not feel isolated. The residents are friendly and welcome new faces! New construction has been underway here in Cecilton, but the houses get snapped up as soon as they are built! However, a three-bedroom new construction home is very affordably priced at $150,000.

Cecilton is definitely a village to check out - if you are looking for an intimate place, near the Bay, and close enough to other, larger metro areas, this may be the piece of heaven you have been waiting for!
