Maryland Real Estate & Relocation Guide

Galesville, Maryland

Population: 1,140

Located in Anne Arundel County

Galesville is a small unique Chesapeake Bay village, a microcosm of the history of the region like no other to be found in the area. Originally settled by Quakers about 1649, warehouses and a wharf were established and it became an official port of entry for imports and exports in the trade with England. Few homes were built until the great steamboats began playing the area in the mid 1800's. With its borders almost entirely defined by water, there has not been significant growth or change on the land since. The old general store continues on today, a genuine relic of our past while an antique shop, art gallery, 3 restaurants, a sailing club and several marinas are the commercial properties along Main Street and the waterfront.

Galesville is so small that finding a home here is hit or miss. One never knows what the next offering will be, an 1800's Victorian, a 1920's bungalow or a 1960's rancher. There are only about 200 homes in the "village". It is a wonderful little tourist destination and a great place to live. Come explore!
