Jacksonville is located in the heart of Maryland's farm country. In more recent years, farms have been sold to developers to create executive home communities. It still is very much a country atmosphere, but a local center in the heart of Jacksonville offers a restaurant, drug store, grocery store, banks, convenience food, medical offices, etc. It consists of rolling hills and a pastoral setting.

Monkton is north of the Baltimore areas' fine universities including Johns Hopkins, Loyola, Towson University, University of Baltimore, University of Maryland-downtown, and Notre Dame.
A drive to downtown Baltimore features a nationally acclaimed aquarium, a symphony orchestra, theaters and a diverse number of art, industrial, and historical museums. It is also home to the Science Center, the ESPN Zone, Port Discovery, a Disney created children's museum, a zoo, the newly built home to the Baltimore Ravens football team, and the wonderful home of the Baltimore Orioles, Camden Yards.
