West River, Maryland
Population: 2,500
Located in Anne Arundel County
West River is an area that includes historic Owensville, picturesque horse farms and the waterfront communities of Back Bay Beach and Chalk Point. Also along the West River shoreline is West River Methodist Center, a summer camp and retreat. In colonial times, Galesville and Chalk Point were active stops for British ships loading tobacco and other agricultural products. British ships often came here only partly loaded , with chalk pallets in the hold to add weight and trim the ship for sailing. This ballast was routinely jettisoned off a deep point in the river, which became known as "Chalk Point". Today, West River is best known as an area of waterfront residences in a great cruising and commuting area. Find homes for sale in West River Maryland
