Ashland is a town with everything - the richness of the community, the administration and the business sector promote growth in all dimensions. It is known for its quiet suburban lifestyle and close proximity to Boston and Worcester. Incorporated in 1846, Ashland is governed by Town Meeting with a board of Selectmen. The Town Manager oversees the day-to-day town operations. Town Meetings are held every May and October.

According to the census the population most recently is 15,022, which means that this is a growing, thriving community. Ashland offers many types of homes and condominiums for sale. There are quaint antiques along with new construction in all types of neighborhoods. You will find traditional subdivisions along with country roads and a more rural setting.

There are several strip malls with supermarkets and restaurants and small retail outlets. One famous store to visit is, "Linda's Lovely Dolls", where custom-made dolls are handcrafted. Ashland also has its own mall with large well-known department stores and video stores.

Transportation
Driving in, out and around Ashland is pretty easy. On the secondary roads you can get to Route 9 and the Mass Pike (I90) in about 10 minutes. You can travel south and east on Route 135 towards Sherborn and Medfield and points further south. Travel west from Route 9 and you are about 15 minutes from Route 495. Although it may appear on a map that Ashland is further away from Boston, it is really a pretty decent commute taking about 40-50 minutes. And you are only a few minutes away from Framingham's Train to Boston and the wonderful mega shopping offered along the Golden Mile of Route 9.

Education
Ashland prides itself on its quality of education and rightly so; 98% of students went to college in 2000. The town has 2 elementary and middle schools and one high school as well as one vocational high school. The average class size is 22 students.
