Bellingham, Massachusetts

Located in Norfolk County

Established in 1719, Bellingham thrived for years as the center for the wool and cotton industries. Now a modern growing residential community, located midway between Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, Bellingham still retains much of its early rural appearance and character. The town fathers have encouraged industry yet maintained areas for wildlife to allow the residential areas to keep their "small town atmosphere".

Bellingham has 3 elementary schools for grades K-6. One Junior/Senior High School offering 3 tracks: College Preparatory, General and Business houses grades 7-12. If a student is in need of special services, he or she will qualify for Alternative Junior/Senior. The Gifted/Talented Program will service students through a pull program starting in grades 3 or 4. Students may opt to attend Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational School in Upton or the Norfolk County Agricultural School in Walpole.

Although Bellingham does not have public transportation, the train to Boston runs out of neighboring Franklin and nearby Milford has a bus system. Boating is allowed on Silver Lake and Lake Hiawatha. Theodore Arcand Park offers public swimming. The town of Bellingham sponsors a park program. Bellingham has many sports including a little league and farm league, recreational hockey, 12 tennis courts, baseball, football and soccer fields.

Bellingham has attracted many new businesses. From the Wal-Mart shopping plaza to the new Home Depot, Nature's Heartland, 14 theatre Hoyt Cinema and new restaurants, most of Bellingham's growing business and industry is centered along Route 495, thus leaving the many fine neighborhoods and residential areas undisturbed by the noise and traffic of busy shopping plazas.

Bellingham's new growth will provide this community with an excellent tax base, which will allow it to provide new and better services to its residents. That together with very reasonable home prices makes Bellingham a great value.
