Named after a town in England, and believed to be the only town of that name in the U.S., Chelmsford is a suburban industrial town located in the Merrimack Valley, 24 miles north of Boston and 40 miles northeast of Worcester. Today this suburban community is home to a population of over 33,800.

Chelmsford began as a community of agriculture and grazing, with dairying and orchards as specialties. There was some lumbering, and a series of small operations such as gristmills, lime quarries, and brick yards. Chelmsford is a suburban community, which offers country-like charm and atmosphere while providing access to modern infrastructure, with many freeways and highways linking it to Boston and Worcester.

It also offers abundant educational opportunities, with a wide selection of schools, both public and private and many places of further education freely available to the residents of Chelmsford. With Boston located so close, many students choose Boston as their place of education. Murdoch Middle Public Charter School
A four-year public middle school of choice, the Murdoch Middle Public Charter School is open by lottery to all residents of Massachusetts in grades five through eight.

Nashoba Valley Techical High School
Nashoba Valley Technical High School is a regional technical school that opened in 1969 to serve both technical and academic needs of high school-aged young men and women. Today, students from the towns of Chelmsford, Groton, Littleton, Pepperell, Shirley, Townsend and Westford enjoy the career preparation in 20 technical programs on an alternating week basis. Our students also take rigorous academic courses required for a high school diploma and entrance into two and four year college programs.
