The "French King" has his name on a bowling center, a nearby motel and comfortable country restaurant complete with dance floor, bar and glowing wood stoves. It is a popular spot for visitors from all over including Leaf Peepers for Fall foliage trips, locals and snowmobilers and is a great place to relax and warm up on a cold winters night. The 750 foot long French King Bridge, after which all the businesses are named, is a major Franklin County Landmark and shared with the Town of Gill. It is a picturesque bridge which towers 140 feet over the Connecticut River. Erving's abundant water always draws its share of the county's visitors. Laurel Lake in Erving State Forest attracts campers, swimmers, boating and fishing enthusiasts. Residents either work at the mills or commute to Greenfield or the Athol/Orange area.

If you come to live in Erving, as many people do, attracted by its low property taxes, expect to be enlightened by the ongoing controversy over the highway that bisects this village, because townspeople have had many years of battle with the state about its plans to widen and straighten Route 2 were it runs through this New England town.
