Granville, Massachusetts
Granville is a small village of about 1,521 people, and it is careful to maintain its roots as a village. Even the elementary school is called, "Granville Village School". If you are looking for a place with both history and charm, look no further than Granville. You can buy a house built in the 1700's if you choose, and in fact many of the houses in the downtown area of the village have been lovingly restored and maintained. Many of them still have the original floors and woodwork. There are of course new developments going in, and the newest homes combine high technology with top quality materials for a calming, peaceful and visually pleasing atmosphere for comfortable family living. A harmonious melding of classic craftsmanship and contemporary features such as graceful geometric upper window sashes, decorative gable supports and simple squared posts give these homes a look that is both distinctive and intriguing. Homes are surprisingly affordable here, especially when one considers the age and history of many of the homes. An 18th century, 6,000 square foot home can go for $500,000 but most homes that are in the 2,000 square foot range sell for between $90,000 and $220,000. There are also apartments for rent, and condos and garden flats to buy if that is what you are interested in. Nearby Granville is the Granville State Forest, where there are a variety of hiking trails to suit hikers of all ability levels. Granville itself is home to Maple Corner farm where cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are the activities of choice during the winter months. They even offer rentals for children through adults. This farm offers well signed and looked after trails, and even a place to have a snack when you are done for the day! Granville was named for the Earl of Granville, and has maintained that sense of elegance in all that is has done and still plans to do. The earl may not live here, but the people who live here have certainly made this a place where he would feel comfortable if he chose to come! Why don't you come instead and see why Granville is the best kept secret in South West Massachusetts.
