Littleton, Massachusetts

Population: 7,066
Located in Middlesex County

Like so many of the towns of the same age (over 400 years old), Littleton retains qualities of the old days, while bringing in modern touches. Created originally as a farming community, today Littleton is a bustling town with a facelift. Littleton was famous for its apple orchards, and was the producer of some of the finest apples in the Northeast.

Known as a hub for manufacturing, Littleton has been attracting businesses since the 1940's. On Great road, Herpy's Dairy, Ice Cream Service and Swimming Pool were constructed in stages between 1947 and 1958 on former farmland east of Littleton Common. The McElroy Manufacturing Corporation, fabricator of high-speed, automatic radio telegraph assemblies, moved to Littleton from Boston c. 1945. Founded in 1927 in Raymond, Maine, the company name changed to Warren Manufacturing Company in 1955. In 1962, Dielectric Products Engineering Company, Inc. purchased it.

Littleton, like its neighbor Concord, is very environmentally conscious and has created several trails, and nature preserves; beauty surrounds you, no matter the season. There is always an activity to keep you happy and busy, whether it is hitting a golf ball on the links, or playing ball in summer with the kids on the baseball diamond, somewhere someone is doing something.

New housing is under construction in this area, and in order to keep the integrity of the area, there are strict building codes enforced that ensure the tranquility of the surrounding countryside is preserved. There are also those antique, historic homes that have been restored and are wonderful reminder of this lovely town's roots.

For a three bedroom, one bathroom home with over 1,000 square feet of living space, plan on spending about $289,000. A newer, beautiful, showcase home with four bedrooms and two bathrooms with over 1,700 square feet of living space would cost in the range of $400,000. For a spacious home with three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, with over 3,000 square feet of luxurious living space, plan on spending $1,000,000.

A quick jaunt will get you into Boston, for an evening at the symphony, or a play, the ballet, or perhaps a sporting event. With Boston so close, the whole world is at your fingertips!

So from farming to orchards, from Boston to Littleton, there is something here that will catch the fancy of every member of the family. Idyllic evenings can be spent on the front porch watching the world go by, while whiling the hours away in conversation with neighbors.
