Conveniently located on the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border, Methuen is only 27 miles north of Boston via Route 93. Route 495 makes it an ideal location for reaching Southern Maine, as well as points west. Methuen has a thriving commercial sector which brings tax revenues and employment opportunities. Methuen is becoming a Mecca of sorts for the medical community with the presence of a top light hospital and medical offices. Rich in history, Methuen benefits from the philanthropy of three prominent families. The Nevins Memorial Library, the Searls Organ Hall, Searls Castle, Tenney Gatehouse and Civil War Monument are but a few. Despite Methuen's growth, plenty of open space and recreational areas give families a chance to relax, Forest Lake offers a town beach and picnic area. There are two golf courses, a high school hockey rink and numerous playgrounds. In addition to the public schools, the community offers two private religious schools.
