Located in Emmet County

This village in Littlefield Township was first settled in 1875; it was given a post office named Hinman on Jan. 17, 1877, with Hollis Frayer as its first postmaster; on June 22, 1882, it was renamed Alanson for Alanson Cook, an official of the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad which first came through here then; incorporated as a village in 1905.

Alanson is an interesting mix of country and town, and also because of the four distinct seasons, visitors are a constant part of the scenery around and about. There are many options for housing here, ranging from small lake cottages, to estates that have some of the best views of the river and the lake, and even houses right on the lake.

Alanson is conveniently located near several ski resorts, but also close to some excellent golf greens, so summer or winter there is always something to do here! The pristine beaches of the lakes are also a great place to hang out and enjoy the beautiful summers here.

Home prices are reasonable and a three-bedroom home, with lake access, view and privileges, plus land will sell for around $250,000. Of course you have the option of choosing something smaller, or larger, depending on your budget and your needs.

Alanson has retained a sense of the old, while moving with the times and making itself a modern town with modern conveniences. Its location is wonderful, close to the water, and to other beautiful towns in the area, and yet it has its own distinctive style and way of doing things.

Because of its uniqueness and beauty, Alanson and the surrounding areas are known by residents as God?s own country, and not many of them choose to leave this particular part of heaven! Come on up and see why, you?ll be glad you did!
