Benton Harbor, Michigan is the home base and National Headquarters for Whirlpool Corporation. It is located at the mouth of the shipping harbor for the Great Lakes and is near the heart of fruit and wine country. Benton Harbor and St. Joseph are locally collectively known as the "Twin Cities."

Sites of interest are Shiloh House, built in 1910 served as the administration building and men's dormitory for the House of David colony, a communal religious group; Morton House built in 1849 by Eleazar Morton, which now houses a museum; and nearby Sarett Nature Center, a 300-acre wildlife sanctuary which offers trails, an interpretative building, and classes. Benton Harbor also has a large fruit market.

Lake Michigan College presents educational and cultural opportunity to the residents offering the Mendal Center which hosts several events a year ranging from political speakers to concerts and symphonies to plays.
