Situated in Michigan's northwest Lower Peninsula, bordered by the beautiful Grand Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan, and the woods of the Mackinaw State Forest, is the cozy community of Central Lake Township. This region consists of rolling terrain and sparkling rivers and streams that make Michigan so famous. This is truly one of the most beautiful areas in the entire state. In fact, Torch Lake, the most notable of all the lakes in this area, is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, and located just minutes from the Central Lake area. The beauty of Michigan living is that one can enjoy a complete calendar of seasons. Springtime comes around March or April with the first touch of warmer temperatures being in the twenties or thirties. Summer temperatures average in the sixties with highs of eighties, but don't let this deceive you; the humidity makes it feel much warmer. This is definitely the place you want to be when fall barges its way in with a splash of color. The weather is still warm enough to enjoy a hike through the woods, or a canoe trip along a river or lake to enjoy the panorama of beauty. Winter can be a bit rough up here in the northland. Temperatures are only in the twenties, but the wind chill makes it feel a bit colder. Don't worry though, expect at least sixty inches of snow to come tumbling your way affording opportunities for snowman building, and sledding. If you've been there and done that, why not don a pair snowshoes and trek your way through the wilderness on a sunny, winter afternoon? This region of northern Michigan is considered both a treasure, with its breathtaking beauty, and a playground, with year round recreation. Families trek to the Central Lake area during the summer months to enjoy camping, fly fishing, and some of the best golfing in the entire state. The winter months bring folks to enjoy the downhill skiing at Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands and Shanty Creek. If that is not enough, the snowmobile trails in the Central Lake area are outstanding. Outdoor sports enthusiasts enjoy the hunting, and ice fishing in this quiet, wooded community. Central Lake offers one elementary school for students in grades Kindergarten through five and Central Lake High School for students in grades six through twelve. There are a handful of larger colleges within a two hundred mile radius of Central Lake Township. Northwestern Michigan College is just thirty miles away in Traverse City and has a wide academic range focusing on science, arts, nursing, and industry certification. There are a variety of architectural styles in Central Lake Township. There are beautiful older homes that bring all the charm of pioneer days to present; and then some newer homes with plenty of modern amenities. An older home with three bedrooms, and one bathroom along with one thousand square feet of living space would start at $79,000. A moderate three-bedroom home with two and a half baths and a square footage of over 1,800 feet situated on a scenic two and a half acre lot would be about $167,000. Of course, if it's a waterfront view you are looking for, you will be pleased with what Central Lake Township has to offer. A showcase home with four bedrooms, three bathrooms sprawled out on almost 3,000 square feet of living space, with over two acres of land that overlooks the lake would start at $950,000. Central Lakes Township is a smaller community nestled in the woods offering a quiet, tranquil lifestyle. Although the area brings many visitors every year to enjoy the trails, lakes, and fall color tours, some do choose to stay and make northern Michigan their home- what an excellent choice. |
