Michigan Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Ferrysburg, Michigan
Population: 3,000
Located in Ottawa County
Ferrysburg is located in northwestern Ottawa County on the shores of Lake Michigan just across the channel from Grand Haven, and adjacent to Spring Lake. Its quiet residential setting compliments the waterfront atmosphere at the marina on the north side of Spring Lake, a popular summer docking site. From the city park, one can view the frequent boat traffic passing through the channel to Grand Haven and Lake Michigan.
First called Ottawa Point in 1850, it was renamed after Reverend William M. Ferry, founder of Grand Haven, by his sons, Colonel Willian Montague Ferry and Thomas W. Ferry, in 1855. Reverend Ferry originally came to the area in 1823 as a missionary, traveling around Lake Michigan all the way to the Straits of Mackinac. He eventually returned to this area because of its potential for shipping and lumber production.
