Population: 8,488 Located in Wayne County

Flat Rock is a predominantly single family community located on the Huron River in southern Wayne County. Just recently, a number of multiple family developments have been constructed in our city.

Autoalliance International, makers of the Mazda 6 and soon the Ford Mustang occupy a prominent site adjacent to I-75 on the east side of the City. Most of the commercial development is located along Telegraph Road (US-24), which crosses diagonally through the west side of the City.

Fifty percent of the land is vacant, providing opportunity for continued residential, industrial, and commercial growth. Telegraph Road and I-75 provide good access within the region. Also, Will Carleton Road provides access to I-275 approximately four miles to the west. The Grand Trunk Railroad runs from northeast to southwest through the City, connecting with a large rail classification yard in the northeast part of the City. Huron River Drive provides ready access to several large regional recreation areas.

Flat Rock is a city that is in a state of continuous improvement. Many new and exciting features have changed the face of our landscape in the past few years. One of the most significant changes came in the form of a brand new state of the art High school. The new Flat Rock High school was a much needed and welcome change to our community and reflects the Board of Education's commitment to improving the educational programs within our school district.

Flat Rock has two parks located within the city limits and although they are both beautiful in there own right, each has its own distinct purpose. Huroc park can be best described as scenic, relaxing and peaceful. As you enter the park, the site of a 19th century style wooden covered bridge will give you the feeling of being transported back in time. Once you cross over the bridge which runs the expanse of the Huron River you will see many wonderful things, including a playground for the kids, walking trails and a giant gazebo, perfect for taking wedding pictures or just having a picnic on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Huroc Park is located right on the Huron River and is a prime fishing spot in the downriver area.

Flat Rock's city park has a flavor all its own. City Park is centrally located behind and to the left of City Hall. Baseball fields, tennis courts, an ice rink with a nice size warming building and a community built playscape make this more then just your average park. We like to consider this an all season recreational plaza.

Flat Rock is surrounded by cultural, intellectual and recreational opportunities. Traditional values mark the quality of life in the Flat Rock area, while we remain poised to meet the promise and the challenge of our future.
