The Village of Grosse Pointe Shores is tiny, only 1.5 square miles and is located in both Wayne and Macomb Counties. But don't think small means insignificant! This is one of the most affluent places in the United States, and indeed in the world to live.
Stately homes line the shore of St. Clair Lake, and access to the lake is oftentimes from a private launch. Homes are exclusive and executive, and indeed many "old" names make their homes here, and many upcoming executives have chosen to call Grosse Pointe Shores home.
With close proximity to Lake St. Clair, three prestigious boating clubs are located in the Grosse Point Woods area. The Grosse Point Yacht Club, the Grosse Pointe Sail Club and the Crescent Sail Yacht Club are located nearby and sailors of all ages enjoy the wind and waves Lake St. Clair. All of these boating clubs enjoy beautiful clubhouses with a reputation for fine foods.
The Lochmoor Country Club is private golf course built in 1917, with beautiful bluegrass fairways and eighteen holes of challenging golf with a scenic backdrop. Large oak and maple trees, that are typical of this area of southeastern Michigan, canopy this stunning course.
Lake Front Park affords a state of the art activities center. Residents enjoy activities such as basketball, volleyball, racquet ball, billiards, air hockey and much more. A swimming pool is also offered for summer time family fun and recreation. Lake Front Park is also a venue for popular events such as city wide picnics, outdoor family movie night, and the Perch Derby. The parks and recreation department also offers a wide array of classes for personal enrichment and sports activities for the entire family.
Edsel Ford made his home here, and indeed there are daily tours of the home available, or you can enjoy the amenities offered at The Ford Park. Or take a drive along Shore Road and see the lovely, stately homes that line the street.
Grosse Pointe Shores is only about a twenty minute drive from the motor city of Detroit. This location is excellent for those driving to Detroit for employment or entertainment. The city of Detroit has plenty of entertainment venues including the Joe Louis Arena, and Cobo Hall.
Homes tend to be larger in this area, generally very well maintained and with a craftsmanship that is second to none. Most of them are also established on large tracts of land, many lake access or a view of the lake; therefore prices tend to be steep. Expect to pay at least $400,000 for even a smaller home in this area.
Grosse Pointe Shores is well known throughout not only the Michigan area, but the entire nation because of its uniqueness and beauty. As far as residents are concerned, this is God's own country, and not many of them choose to leave this particular part of heaven! Come along, and you'll see why!
