Michigan Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Hamburg Township, Michigan
Population: 20,627
Located in Livingston County
Looking for a place a little off the beaten track, but still close enough to the major freeways and cities for a good commute, then look further than the town of Hamburg Township in the middle of Livingston County.
Hamburg Township is a mix of old and new. Originally it was extremely rural, and consisted mostly of farms and small-holdings. In the last couple of decades however, as more people have fled the urban areas of greater Detroit, Hamburg Township has grown into a suburban area as land has been bought and developed.
Hamburg Township has retained a sense of country though, and this has been achieved by maintaining large lots, unfenced yards and many golf courses. Livingston County has 22 public and private golf courses, almost more than any other county in the nation! Most homes back onto a golf course, or a nature preserve. Hamburg Township, like much of this part of the state, has many small lakes that dot the landscape, and it is not unusual to find homes clustered around a lake where no boats are allowed, and the lake retains a sense of its natural beauty.
Hamburg Township is ideally situated halfway between two east-west freeways, I94 and I96, and also only minutes away from I23, a north-south connector. Within a few minutes you can find yourself in Ann Arbor, Brighton, Wixom, Novi, Southfield and even downtown Detroit. Most commutes take less than an half-an-hour and the expressways move pretty quickly.
Nature meets function in many of the new homes in the area. Builders are sensitive to the environment and try and make sure the homes reflect that. Singe-family homes are the order of the day here, although there are the odd condo developments here and there, and also some "cluster homes." A modest three or four-bedroom home with between 1,500-2,000 square feet sells for between $189,000-$299,000. There are some golf courses that develop custom-built homes of 6,000 square feet and more; for those you can expect to spend $800,000 and up.
If you're looking for things to do, then look no further than Livingston County! This is one of the more rural areas in south-east Michigan, and as such has a lot of country-type shows, horse shows and country fairs than its neighbors. But if country doesn't do it for you, you can always round up the family and drive into Ann Arbor, and enjoy the downtown area and stop at one of the many fine one-of-a-kind restaurants and enjoy a meal while people-watching!
Shopping can be done in several fine malls and downtown areas including Ann Arbor, at the Briarwood Mall, or in Brighton, or even Milford, which offers a unique downtown of cobbled pathways, and "hidden" treasures.
Come and discover a slice of heaven in Michigan that has long been a secret! For convenience, beauty and affordability, Hamburg Township can't be beat!
