Located in Oakland County
Located approximately 25 miles north of Detroit, Lake Orion Village began in the 1800's as a summer resort around Lake Orion and developed into a year-round community that is oriented around the lake and Paint Creek.
Transportation:
The downtown and commercial areas are located along M-24, the major north-south state highway that connects the area with Pontiac. Lake Orion is located within minutes of the new Chrysler Technical Center, The Palace of Auburn Hills (home of the Detroit Pistons), and The Pontiac Silverdome.
Education:
The Lake Orion School District's mission is to prepare students to meet the challenges of tomorrow by providing the educational environment for all to learn today. The district serves five townships and provides educational opportunities for over 5,600 students from kindergarten through 12th grade. A new high school opened in August 1997 for grades 9-12.
Recreation:
Recreationally, there are several golf courses in the Lake Orion/Oxford area, with more than 20 courses found in a 20-mile radius of Lake Orion. The exclusive Indianwood Country Club, featuring two, 18-hole championship courses is within a 5-minute drive of Lake Orion. Also nearby is the Paint Creek Trail, which extends from Lake Orion to Rochester. Both trails provide miles of biking and running opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. There are 23 churches in the Lake Orion area and 19 more in neighboring Oxford.
The area features 27 public lakes and major recreation areas, such as Bald Mountain State Park and Orion Oaks County Park. "Diverse and Growing" is how Lake Orion is described. At 34.69-square-miles, the Township is experiencing solid residential and business growth.
