Marshall is one of Michigan's best treasures! Located right off the I94 on the way to Battle Creek, and all points west, Marshall is a small but thriving community, filled with a sense of history. In fact, Marshall is home to one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the Nation and proudly demonstrates this fact through the Historical Marshall Home Tour, which takes place annually during the second weekend of September. The Home Tour is a Marshall tradition of thirty plus years allowing its citizens to show their hospitality and historical treasures to the thousands of visitors who come from all over the country to see the homes and businesses reminiscent of days gone by. In the past, the Governor's House has been showcased, as well as Marshall's pride and joy - the Honolulu House, a house with a tropical feel, and a one of a kind verandah. But historic homes are not the only homes on display here! Homes of many ages, sizes and style are available right here in Marshall. If you're looking for a historic home you need look no further than the downtown area of Marshall, where the homes have been lovingly restored, and the average age of a home is 110 years. Many of these homes still retain the original woodwork, and floors, although many of the kitchens and bathrooms have been updated, and of course, they are all up to code in regard to safety. Expect to spend from $120,000 to $200,000 for a restored, roomy home, ranging in size from 1,400 to over 2,000 square feet in size. If something more modern is the way you want to go, then look just outside the city limits for a three bedroom ranch on a couple of acres for around $180,000. If you don't need the land, and want a city lot, then the price drops. However, no matter the need, Marshall can meet it! The commercial and industrial businesses of this city of 8,000+ citizens are diverse and growing as well. Antique and gift shoppers find themselves intrigued while browsing in one of the many unique downtown shops. Uniqueness is definitely Marshall's defining feature, which is why so many independent business owners do well in this small town. Marshall is home of the oldest Bed and Breakfast in the State of Michigan, as well as the famed Schuler's Restaurant, opened in 1909. Like most of Michigan, Marshall is home to many lakes, and rivers, making water sports almost compulsory! So whether it is a gentle stroll along the river banks, or a day out at Duck Lake, or some of the other lakes around Marshall, there is something to do here. And don't forget the four seasons! Fall comes in a riotous splash of color, with plenty of warm days, and cool evenings to enjoy cider and hot chocolate, and generally by Christmas there is a white spread on the ground to enhance the backdrop of Christmas decorations. Spring enters damply, giving way to glorious summer days, with long balmy evenings. All of these seasons can be experienced against the backdrop of a lovely small city. Marshall is a close commute to Battle Creek to the west, and Jackson to the east, making it a great place for those who love the quietness of the town, but have to commute. With all this on show, and so much more, come and see why Marshall is regarded as one of Michigan's greatest treasures!
