Much of Milan's population is still heavily farm-oriented, with more than 400 working farms surrounding this quaint community. Purchase succulent strawberries, hearty tomatoes, sweet corn and grains at roadside stands or farm markets. Milan is both typical and unique. It is typical of many cities as can be seen from the tree lined streets and active downtown business district. Milan is also unique in that a real sense of community has developed over the years. People are neighbors helping each other.

The Milan Civic Center is located on Neckel Court on the south side of the Saline River and Wilson Park. The Civic Center is home to City Hall, Police Headquarters, the Senior and Community Center, the Milan Public Library, and the Water Distribution Plant. Milan City Hall overlooks the tranquil Saline River. The Administrative Offices, City Clerk/Treasurer Offices, Building and Assessing Offices are all housed in City Hall, as well as two public meeting rooms.

Milan Parks & Recreation offers a wide range of programs, activities and special events throughout the year. New program brochures are available each year in January, May & September. There are several different parks located throughout Milan:

This is a 4 acre park on S. Platt Rd. north of Redman Rd. (behind Milan Middle School). Facilities include tennis courts and softball diamond. Nature Park is an 11 acre park on S. Platt Rd. south of Main Street. Facilities include: softball diamond, soccer field, picnic area (shelter, tables and grills), playground area and horseshoe pits.

Sanford Road Park is a 139 acre park on Sanford Road between E. Arkona and Milan-Oakville Roads. Facilities include: Radio-Controlled Model Airplane Flying Field, Horse Show Arena, Jogging Trail and Pheasant Habitat/Sanctuary. There is also a 35 acre park on Wabash St. south of Main St. featuring a picnic area (shelter, tables and grills), playground & tot-lot area, basketball courts, sand volleyball court, walk/bike path and softball & baseball fields.

Education:
Nine public school systems in the county provide accredited kindergarten through 12th grade programs with special classes in vocations, adult education and community school programs. Total county public K-12 enrollment for September 1998 was approximately 24,504. A new High School is scheduled to open around 2004. Approximately 2200 students.

Milan is a friendly city with a giving spirit. It also happens to be located in a beautiful area of Southeastern Michigan in both Monroe and Washtenaw Counties. Just minutes from downtown Ann Arbor and approximately one hour to Detroit, and 45 minutes to Toledo, Ohio.
