The American Dream is a reality in Oak Park. Although literally dozens of ethnic heritages are represented in our population, we share the same basic values, ambitions and opportunities. Thousands of us have resided here for decades. Thousands more have come from other cities and other nations, including many from the Middle East and the former Soviet Union. Although our backgrounds are diverse, we live side-by-side as neighbors and community partners. The character of our community matches the ideals professed by our motto: "The Family City". This is a great place to raise a family; To live the American Dream.

There are many events that bring residents of The Family City together for celebration and enjoyment. Some examples are:

Winterfest, which began as a salute to Oak Park's 50th anniversary as a chartered city, starts off the year. The annual Daddy-Daughter Dance celebrates Valentine's Day in mid-February. Dozens of kids, and their parents, enjoy Recreation's Egg Hunt each March.

Spring brings travel camps for youngsters, the City-wide Cleanup and the Beautification Commission Flower Sale.

Summer features kids' baseball, the Concert in the Park series and , FunFest - 11 days of great activities topped off by the traditional July 4th Parade and Funday in Shepherd Park.

When the leaves turn golden in the community's many parks, children get excited about the annual Halloween Spooktacular. And residents of all ages enjoy the colors and unique mood of autumn by joining family trips to area cider mills and apple farms.

These and other programs are made possible in large part by the citizen volunteers who serve on municipal boards and commissions. They deserve special thanks for their efforts to help make Oak Park truly a community for all seasons.
