The Charter Township of Redford derives its name from "Rouge ford" or crossing place of the Rouge River. Redford is primarily a residential community offering many urban advantages to its diversity of residents. Redford has a variety of architectural styles and price ranges. Although principally a residential community, Redford Township does have limited industrial development. This is concentrated mainly in an area bounded by Telegraph Road (US-24), Plymouth Road (M-14), Interstate 96 Freeway, and Inkster Road.
